If you have any good ideas, please share with me and I will post it here.

Idea: We all know that succulents and tropicals usuall don't mix well due to soil and water requirements being so different. I get around that problem in my mixed plantings by adding a plastic barrier just below soil level between the tropicals and other succulents or leave in a pot buried in the soil so I can water one without soaking the other.

Idea: You've heard the phrase 'do not overpot'. Overpotting means putting a small plant in a big pot. The problem with that is since the roots are confined to a small area the soil stays wet and soggy, usually ending up with a dead or dying plant. I get around that by cutting the bottom out of a small potted plant then putting it into the larger pot. You can even put the smaller pot into a little bigger pot and add soil between them. Then when you think the plant is settled, remove the small pot simply by lifting straight up and you now have your plant in a big pot without disturbing the roots. This system works very well with Hoya who absolutely hate having their roots disturbed.
